Our Precious Thoughts Matter

The silent words we speak in our minds greatly affect us.

We press on even when it hurts.

We have spent a lot of time as a family cultivating resilience. It's okay to not feel okay, but we cannot stay there. When a diagnosis is new, we all start out in survival mode, but we cannot stay there either. Hiding from our pain wastes energy that is needed for healing. We need to put in the work to get to a place where we are thriving rather than surviving. When a T1D diagnosis invades our life, we need to tap into our resilience.

We manage our thoughts

Thinking about what we think about is crucial to our well-being. Our lives move in the direction of our thoughts. Renewing our mind is an ongoing process, and we have lived out many effective strategies in our family. When a negative thought pattern emerges, we talk about each specific thought, check if it is true, and acknowledge that we don't have to accept it or give it our time just because it popped into our head. Sometimes the most potent lies we believe are wrapped in partial truths, so it is very important to take the time to address them as they come.

We focus on progress not perfection

We need to strive for healthy blood sugars, but we also need to have balance in our lives. Individuals living with T1D are so much more than numbers! We make small changes when we are ready to take on something new. When we are thankful for our progress, we cultivate gratitude & contentment in our hearts. It is easy to underestimate the power of gratitude. When we take time to focus on how far we have come and what we are thankful for, it really changes us and can bring peace.
